Kim Youngwoon became a trainee under SM Entertainment soon after he won first place on the 4th SM Youth Best Selection Best Outward Appearance in 2002. Soon afterwards he made a brief cameo appearance in the SBS drama, A Man And A Woman in May 2002.
Although originally auditioned to be an actor, he was placed under many all-male project music groups, including the group Four Seasons, a four-member boy band that was to include Kim Heechul, Hero Jaejoong, and U-Know Yunho. However, both U-Know Yunho and Hero Jaejoong soon debuted as members of TVXQ in 2003, ending the Four Seasons project.

He was one of the three MC's for M.NET's M!Countdown along with bandmates Leeteuk and Shindong before he was replaced by Eunhyuk. In 2000, Park was discovered by a talent scout in Myeongdong, South Korea. Despite being a large thirteen member boy band with the members having a variety of different vocal ranges, Super Junior are often praised for their vocal harmonization and unison. Some members are credited for their vocal belting techniques, notably Yesung. Leeteuk, Heechul, Han Geng, Sungmin, Donghae, and Ryeowook sing within the stretch of a high baritone range to the tenor range, while Kang-in, and Siwon sing in a lower baritone range. Shindong's, Kibum's, and Kyuhyun's vocals lie in the bass range. Shindong, Eunhyuk, and Kibum are also the known rappers of the group due to their rhythmic vocals and quick tongue. Super Junior-K.R.Y, established in November 2006, is a trio formed by Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung. The company discovered that these three members developed a particular persona and subsequent fan-base that was separate from the rest of the group, and how they also had similar musical qualities. They therefore grouped these three members together to perform particular songs to target a more mature audience. Being amongst the most vocally powerful members of the group, Super Junior-K.R.Y are credited to singing mournful, R&B-style ballads, a style that has proven very popular in recent years although stagnation in the style's development is causing it to lose its once fresh evocative power.
